Chapter 23

Chapter: Al-Khatt, and Al-’Iyafah (Being Dissuaded By Birds).

باب فِي الْخَطِّ وَزَجْرِ الطَّيْرِ

English narration

Narrated by قبيصة بن المخارق الهلالي

Narrated Qabisah: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: Augury from the flight of birds, taking evil omens and the practice of pressomancy pertain to divination. Tarq: It is used in the sense of divination in which women threw stones. 'Iyafah: It means geomancy by drawing lines.

النص العربي

حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ، حَدَّثَنَا عَوُفٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَيَّانُ ، قَالَ غَيْر مُسَدَّدٍ ، حَيَانُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ ، حَدَّثَنَا قَطَنُ بْنُ قَبِيصَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : "

الْعِيَافَةُ وَالطِّيَرَةُ وَالطَّرْقُ مِنَ الْجِبْتِ

" ، الطَّرْقُ : الزَّجْرُ ، وَالْعِيَافَةُ : الْخَطُّ .
