Book 57: The Book of The Obligations of Khumus

كِتَاب فَرْضِ الْخُمُسِ

Chapter 15

(15) Chapter. The proof that the Khumus is to be used for the needs of the Muslims, is that when the people of the tribe of Hawazin appealed to the Prophet (p.b.u.h) (to give them back what he had gained from them as war booty) mentioning the fact that he had been nursed by one of their women, he ( (p.b.u.h)) asked the Muslims to give up their shares of the booty to them.

15- بَابُ وَمِنَ الدَّلِيلِ عَلَى أَنَّ الْخُمُسَ لِنَوَائِبِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ مَا سَأَلَ هَوَازِنُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِرَضَاعِهِ فِيهِمْ فَتَحَلَّلَ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ:

English narration

Narrated by جابر بن عبد الله الأنصاري

While Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) was distributing the booty at Al-Ja'rana, somebody said to him "Be just (in your distribution)." The Prophet (ﷺ) replied, "Verily I would be miserable if I did not act justly."

النص العربي

حَدَّثَنَا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا قُرَّةُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ دِينَارٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا ، قَالَ : بَيْنَمَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقْسِمُ غَنِيمَةً بِالْجِعْرَانَةِ ، إِذْ قَالَ لَهُ : "

رَجُلٌ اعْدِلْ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ : شَقِيتُ إِنْ لَمْ أَعْدِلْ

" .
