Book 76: The Book of Medicine

كِتَاب الطِّبِّ

Chapter 17

(17) Chapter. Whatever gets himself branded (cauterized) or branded (cauterized) someone else, and the superiority of one who does not get branded (cauterized).

17- بَابُ مَنِ اكْتَوَى أَوْ كَوَى غَيْرَهُ، وَفَضْلِ مَنْ لَمْ يَكْتَوِ:

English narration

Narrated by جابر بن عبد الله الأنصاري

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "If there is any healing in your medicines then it is a cupping operation, or branding (cauterization), but I do not like to be (cauterized) branded."

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ هِشَامُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ الْغَسِيلِ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمُ بْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ قَتَادَةَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ جَابِرًا ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : "

إِنْ كَانَ فِي شَيْءٍ مِنْ أَدْوِيَتِكُمْ شِفَاءٌ فَفِي : شَرْطَةِ مِحْجَمٍ ، أَوْ لَذْعَةٍ بِنَارٍ ، وَمَا أُحِبُّ أَنْ أَكْتَوِيَ

" .
