Chapter 22

(22) Chapter. How to return the greetings of the Dhimmi (non-Muslims under the protection of a Muslim state).

22- بَابُ كَيْفَ يُرَدُّ عَلَى أَهْلِ الذِّمَّةِ السَّلاَمُ:

English narration

Narrated by عبد الله بن عمر العدوي

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "When the Jews greet you, they usually say, 'As-Samu 'alaikum (Death be on you),' so you should say (in reply to them), 'Wa'alaikum (And on you).

النص العربي

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : "

إِذَا سَلَّمَ عَلَيْكُمُ الْيَهُودُ فَإِنَّمَا يَقُولُ أَحَدُهُمُ : السَّامُ عَلَيْكَ ، فَقُلْ : وَعَلَيْكَ

" .
