Book 49: The Book of Manumission (of Slaves)

Chapter 9

(9) Chapter. The selling of a Mudabbar (i.e., the slave who is declared by his master to be manumitted after his master’s death).

9- بَابُ بَيْعِ الْمُدَبَّرِ:

English narration

Narrated by جابر بن عبد الله الأنصاري

A man amongst us declared that his slave would be freed after his death. The Prophet (ﷺ) called for that slave and sold him. The slave died the same year.

النص العربي

حَدَّثَنَا آدَمُ بْنُ أَبِي إِيَاسٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ دِينَارٍ ، سَمِعْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا ، قَالَ : "

أَعْتَقَ رَجُلٌ مِنَّا عَبْدًا لَهُ عَنْ دُبُرٍ ، فَدَعَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِهِ ، فَبَاعَهُ ، قَالَ جَابِرٌ : مَاتَ الْغُلَامُ عَامَ أَوَّلَ
