Abu Dawud · 5040انْطَلِقُوا بِنَا إِلَى بَيْتِ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا , فَانْطَلَقْنَا ، فَقَالَ : يَا عَائِشَةُ ، أَطْعِمِينَا فَجَاءَتْ بِحَشِيشَةٍ فَأَكَلْنَا ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : يَا عَائِشَةُ ، أَطْعِمِينَا , فَجَاءَتْ بِحَيْسNarrated Tikhfat al-Ghifari: Ya'ish ibn Tikhfat al-Ghifari said: My father was one of the people in the Suffah. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Come with us to the house of Aishah. So we went and he said: Give us food, Ai6 narratorsAbu Dawud · 5041مَنْ بَاتَ عَلَى ظَهْرِ بَيْتٍ لَيْسَ لَهُ حِجَارٌ ، فَقَدْ بَرِئَتْ مِنْهُ الذِّمَّةُNarrated Ali ibn Shayban: The Prophet ﷺ said: If anyone spends the night on the roof of a house with no stone palisade, Allah's responsibility to guard him no longer applies.6 narratorsAbu Dawud · 5042مَا مِنْ مُسْلِمٍ يَبِيتُ عَلَى ذِكْرٍ طَاهِرًا ، فَيَتَعَارُّ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ ، فَيَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ خَيْرًا مِنَ الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ إِلَّا أَعْطَاهُ إِيَّاهُNarrated Muadh ibn Jabal: The Prophet ﷺ said: If a Muslim sleeps while remembering Allah, in the state of purification, is alarmed while asleep at night, and asks Allah for good in this world and in the Hereafter. Abu Dawud said: that is to say, he urinated6 narratorsAbu Dawud · 5044كَانَ فِرَاشُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَحْوًا مِمَّا يُوضَعُ الْإِنْسَانُ فِي قَبْرِهِ ، وَكَانَ الْمَسْجِدُ عِنْدَ رَأْسِهِNarrated Umm Salamah, Ummul Muminin: Some relative of Umm Salamah said: The bed of the Prophet ﷺ was set as a man is laid in his grave; the mosque was towards his head.5 narratorsAbu Dawud · 5045أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَرْقُدَ ، وَضَعَ يَدَهُ الْيُمْنَى تَحْتَ خَدِّهِ ، ثُمَّ يَقُولُ : اللَّهُمَّ قِنِي عَذَابَكَ يَوْمَ تَبْعَثُ عِبَادَكَ ثَلَاثَ مِرَارٍNarrated Hafsah, Ummul Muminin: When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wanted to go to sleep, he put his right hand under his cheek and would then say three times: O Allah, guard me from Thy punishment on the day when Thou raises6 narratorsAbu Dawud · 5046إِذَا أَتَيْتَ مَضْجَعَكَ ، فَتَوَضَّأْ وُضُوءَكَ لِلصَّلَاةِ ، ثُمَّ اضْطَجِعْ عَلَى شِقِّكَ الْأَيْمَنِ ، وَقُلْ : اللَّهُمَّ أَسْلَمْتُ وَجْهِي إِلَيْكَ ، وَفَوَّضْتُ أَمْرِي إِلَيْكَ ، وَأَلْجَأْتُ ظَهْرِي إِلَيْكَ ،Al-Bara bin Azib said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me: When you go to your bed, perform ablution like the ablution for prayer, and then lie on your right side and say: O Allah I have handed over my face to thee, ent5 narratorsAbu Dawud · 5047حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ، عَنْ فِطْرِ بْنِ خَلِيفَةَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ سَعْدَ بْنَ عُبَيْدَةَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ الْبَرَاءَ بْنَ عَازِبٍ ، قَالَ : قال لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيAl-Bara bin Azib said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me: when you go to bed while you are in the state of purification, lay your head on your right hand. He then mentioned the rest of the tradition in a similar manner5 narratorsAbu Dawud · 5048حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ الْغَزَّالُ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ , وَمَنْصُورٍ ، عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَيْدَةَ ، عَنْ الْبَرَاءِ ، عَنِ النّThe tradition mentioned above has also been transmitted by al-Bara bin Azil from the prophet ﷺ to the same effect through a different chain of narrators. One transmitter said: when you go to your bed while you are in the7 narratorsAbu Dawud · 5049كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا نَامَ ، قَالَ : اللَّهُمَّ بِاسْمِكَ أَحْيَا وَأَمُوتُ ، وَإِذَا اسْتَيْقَظَ ، قَالَ : الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا ، وَإِلَيْهِ النّHudhaifah said: when the prophet ﷺ lay down on his bed (at night), he would say: O Allah! In Thy name I die and live. When he awoke, he said: praise be to Allah who has given us life after causing us to die and to whom w6 narratorsAbu Dawud · 5050إِذَا أَوَى أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ ، فَلْيَنْفُضْ فِرَاشَهُ بِدَاخِلَةِ إِزَارِهِ ، فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَدْرِي مَا خَلَفَهُ عَلَيْهِ ، ثُمَّ لِيَضْطَجِعْ عَلَى شِقِّهِ الْأَيْمَنِ ، ثُمَّ لِيَقُلْ : بِاسْمِكَ رَبِّي وَضَعAbu Hurairah reported the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: when any of you goes to his bed, he should dust his bedding with the inner extremity of his lower garment, for he does not know what has come on it since he left 6 narratorsAbu Dawud · 5051إِذَا أَوَى إِلَى فِرَاشِهِ : اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ السَّمَوَاتِ وَرَبَّ الْأَرْضِ وَرَبَّ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ ، فَالِقَ الْحَبِّ وَالنَّوَى ، مُنَزِّلَ التَّوْرَاةِ وَالْإِنْجِيلِ وَالْقُرْآنِ ، أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ ذِي شَAbu Hurairah said: when the prophet ﷺ went to his bed, he used to say: O Allah!
