All praise is for Allah who gave us life after He caused us to die, and to Him is the resurrection.
Hudhayfa and al-Bara' ibn Azib narrate that when the Prophet went to bed he said “Bismika amutu wa ahya” (in Your name I die and live), and when he woke he said “All praise is for Allah who gave us life after He caused us to die, and to Him is the resurrection.” Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah record it.
Other reports cover what to say on waking during the night, and Abu Dawud's chapter “What one says in the morning” gathers remembrances for the start of the day.
