Muhaqalah (المحاقلة): Meaning in Hadith

4 hadith in the six books

الْمُحَاقَلَةِ

muhaqalah

Root: ح ق ل

Muhaqalah, from haql (a sown field), is usually explained as selling grain still in the ear for clean grain by measure. Some narrators explain it as renting out land for part of its produce, as in Abu Sa'id's report in Ibn Majah (“al-muhaqalah is renting land”). The Prophet forbade it, often mentioned together with muzabanah.
