Waqidh (وقيذ): Meaning in Hadith

4 hadith in the six books

وَقِيذٌ

waqidh

Root: و ق ذ

Al-waqidh (also mawqudh) is an animal killed by a blow from something blunt rather than by a cutting edge, such as game struck by the broad side of a mi'rad (a featherless arrow or rod). The hadith of Adi ibn Hatim rules that game hit by the sharp edge may be eaten, while game killed by the broad side is waqidh. The Qur'an uses al-mawqudhah in the same sense (5:3).
